This concert is devoted exclusively to the art of ornamentation and improvisation. The scores of the 16th century, the finest polyphonic repertoire, are the canvases for these florid designs that were so often described, but rarely precisely notated. This program is an attempt to enter into a truly Renaissance aesthetic: before the Baroque, before Romanticism, and before all the aesthetic upheavals of the 20th century. With breathtaking music, William Dongois and his congenial colleagues lead listeners directly to the turn of the 17th century.
