Exuberance, arrogance, and madness are all encompassed in the name »Folia«, a harmonic progression that inspired generations of musicians to countless frenzied variations. 17th-century composers loved the bizarre. They elicited all sorts of effects from the violin, using it to imitate the sounds of nature or even other instruments, and pushing its technique to levels that demanded complete mastery.
